Update: New Rates Effective April 2026

December 12, 2025

At their December meeting, the Fairfax Water Board approved changes to the water rates, which will go into effect April 1, 2026.

As a not-for-profit water utility, we only charge what it costs to serve you and this adjustment is necessary to meet rising costs in electricity, water treatment supplies, pipes, and project materials.

  • Adopted Rates (Effective April 1, 2026)
  • Current Rates (Effective April 1, 2025)

Why the New Rates are Needed

Providing safe, clean drinking water 24/7 is our top priority. But, just like everything else, delivering that service is getting more expensive. Inflation is increasing capital and operational costs for water utilities nationwide.

The rate increase – about $1.93 per month for most customers – is needed to help cover the costs of producing about 170 million gallons of safe drinking water per day and maintaining Fairfax Water’s $2 billion water infrastructure. This includes pumps, water mains, and water service lines that deliver reliable high-quality water to customers daily. The rate increase also covers rising costs, for:

  • Electricity
  • Water treatment supplies
  • Pipes
  • Project materials
